Island Transporter uses Barge Tug Josh to transport logging trucks to remove blown down trees from Swan Island to the mainland in Richmond.
A windstorm in October 2017, knocked over several acres of trees on Swan Island in Richmond. Inland Fisheries & Wildlife (IFW) oversees the operation of removing the widespread damage. Island Transporter was contracted by Arey Marine & Wood Products Inc to transport logging trucks from the mainland across the tidal Kennebec River to Swan Island.
We began this project in April and is expected to last until sometime in August. Maneuvering the tidal waters with loaded logging trucks can be a challenge along with the length of day we are able to work. Coordination between IFW and Andy Arey has been smooth, enabling or crew to stay on task, moving the maximum amount of trucks each day.
